Private Eyes

I work in an open-plan office in a cubicle. This does not afford any kind of privacy when I'm working on sensitive projects. Also, with an open entrance way, other employees feel free to just walk in when I am trying to give my undivided attention to a complex project — HELP!

Lesley's request is actually a common one. On the up side, cubicles rate high on easy sharing of information, a sense of community and an efficient use of space; on the down side, they can be noisy, inflexible and anything but private! Lesley was off to a good start. She had lots of organizational tools but our experts helped her make the most of the space she had and turned her cubicle into her own little private oasis.

To help Lesley get some privacy in her space, we gave her some easily accessible organizational tools for storing loose papers and files. Remember— if it's out for everyone to see it's not private. The Quartet Workstation Privacy Screen (Staples No. 570267) we put on Lesley's cube (see image to left) gives her the opportunity to work behind a “closed door” for projects that require privacy or concentration, and the filter on her monitor helps keep her online documents confidential. We tucked a space-saving shredder under her desk that takes up very little room but is powerful enough to shred credit cards, CDs, DVDs, paper clips and staples. The rolling cart we added gives her the space to store nonconfidential files, making room to keep her purse and personal belongings in a locked drawer.
